10 Essential Fixes The PS4 Desperately Needs

7. Customisable Menus

There's no denying that the PS4's home screen is an attractive thing. The basic layout flows nicely, it has a simple user interface and it is dynamic enough to expand on its simplicity when required. That being said, it is also very limited by a lack of any customisability, which is a shame as it's basic form would lend itself very well to a spot of personalisation. It's true that an upcoming 2.0 update is brining a range of themes to add a touch of personalisation to the otherwise uniformed blue, and that this software will also bring an update to the actual menus. The update here is simply a limiter, however, and it will just see the simple conveyor of games, apps and files the console's players have used be restricted to a smaller number, rather than stream forever. The remaining number will then be filed away out of initial sight. It would be far better to allow players the option of deciding what ends up on their own home screen's conveyor belt of features, so that favourites or regularly-used games/apps could always be found in the same place. The option to have folders of grouped files on the home screen would allow for players who like to apply a touch of home-pride to their software grouping to keep everything clean and concise, or allow players who want everything on show to just stream on forever in a roulette of features. A small amount of personalisation goes a long way, you know...
