After decades of suffering through one terrible game after another, everyone's favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is finally under new management.

Spinning an original tale rather than having to be tied into another movie, Insomniac's Spider-Man is easily the most ambitious take on the character yet, promising to delve deep into Peter Parker's struggles outside of the costume. The best Spidey stories always balance the superhero's crime-fighting with the real-world problems of his alter ego, and the developers seem to be incorporating this element into the sandbox title in a unique way.

Of course, that would mean nothing if the web-slinging action wasn't top notch, and fortunately the gameplay itself looks to be as tight, and as cinematic, as ever. Taking cues form their criminally underrated Sunset Overdrive, the focus here is on speed, agility, and a wide array of powers - three combat pillars which fit the Web Head perfectly.

The developers have recently reaffirmed that the title will be dropping in 2018, meaning that hopefully players won't have too long to wait before they get their hands on the biggest Spidey game yet.
