9. Extensive Character Creation
In this hypothetical game, the player wouldnt simply create themselves and jump in there, no they would create the first officer, communications officer, engineer, doctor, security chief, transporter tech etc. Thats just the beginning; they would have a set of options that gave each player a back story. The player could choose the crew members race, age on top of their level of training. These created characters would then be dropped into the game to eventually join the crew at a time where it coincides with the created characters build. By allowing the player to create just about everyone on their team, the emotional connection to each character is easier to establish which would aid the developers in telling a compelling story. This would also draw in more players who are interested in creating an NPC and then watching how they develop. What if the first officer the player creates falls in love with the bar tender the player designed? How would that affect the story? This would make each players experience unique compared to everyone else that purchased the game, adding to the fun of character creation which is already a selling point of role playing games.
