Being bad can be good too!

Not every person you play as is a good person. Sometimes video games allow you to fill in the shoes of some truly deplorable human beings, who act with true malice and selfishness in every situation they're in.
And yet, they still somehow end up saving the day from an even more horrible threat.
Yes, just because you play as an evil bastard, it doesn't mean you can't do anything nice for the world. In rare cases, a malicious character can turn out to be an unexpected hero, even though it may not have been their true intentions.
Whether by coincidence, common interest, or an attempt to defy their evil nature, these kinds of heroes end up doing more good than bad in the end. You might spend the entire playthrough committing truly deplorable atrocities, and yet in the grander scheme of things, your misdeeds will be completely cancelled out by a heroic act against a greater evil.
The following video game characters didn't choose the hero's life, but it certainly chose them. Even though they are the last person you'd come running to for help, their evil antics are somehow the last hope for saving the world.
10. The Hero Of Brightwall - Fable III

In Fable III your character spends most of their time fighting against the evil regime of their traitorous brother, King Logan.
However, just because you're fighting a despot, it doesn't mean you can't be a despot yourself. In fact, by being another tyrant, you can actually save your kingdom more efficiently than a noble-hearted hero.
That's right! Fable allows you to roleplay as both a good and a bad person, and while both styles of gameplay are equally viable for accomplishing the main goal of the game, that is overthrowing Logan and defeating the Crawler's horde, being bad is secretly the better strategy, because it makes it significantly easier to gather up funds for building a defense force against the incoming army of monsters.
After you get rid of Logan, you get only a little bit of time to prepare for the Crawler's invasion, and since overcharging people for rented apartments is the easiest and fastest (also, the most evil) way of making money late game, the bad characters are, ironically, more efficient at saving the world.
No wonder Fable is a fantasy game. Greedy landlords are considered heroes of their community in Albion!
