10 Evil Video Games That Let You Be A True Tyrant!

Drug-dealing, world-ending, evil lair-building... what more could you want?

Far too many games encourage us to be the best self we can be. More often than not, characters are on the so-called right side of history, or allied with the good guys. Even games that allow you to make significant moral choices that have an impact on the story later down the line will sometimes punish you for the naughtier decisions you might make.

Hero fantasies are fun and all, but sometimes you want to indulge your dark side a little bit. You might come home from a bad day at the office and just want nothing more than to cause a little virtual chaos as a bit of a release. Whether its violence, back-stabbing political machinations, ruling a kingdom with an iron fist, or building the perfect, ever-expanding evil lair inside a volcano, I'd wager we've all once thought about breaking bad in our own unique ways.

So, if you're a bit fed up of always being pigeon-holed into playing the good guy, cause some trouble in a new world as a new arch-villain in one of these ten games.

10. Tropico 6

If you fancy enforcing a totalitarian "government" on a local population, but don't really want it to be all too dark, why not give Tropico a go?

Casting you as "El Presidente", the Tropico series sees the player take charge as head honcho in a lighthearted take on semi-democracy. You oversee your own personal version of Tropico, a fictional little slice of the Caribbean. A management game through and through, gameplay will see you organising practically every aspect of government through four major periods of history: the colonial, world war, cold war and modern eras.

Like previous games, your prime goal is to expand and develop your civilisation, but now you're doing this across a small archipelago, rather than one single island. More complicated cities will bring more complex social problems, so you'll be balancing political groups' desires against the wants of your people. Gain enough favour, and you'll eventually declare independence and become the one true leader of your island paradise. Whether your society takes the form of a utopian paradise where everyone has equal access to any necessity or a needlessly brutal military dictatorship is up to you.
