10 Exact Moments That Made Fans Hate Gaming Franchises
7. All The Quiet Fan Service - Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid V might be the most frustratingly brilliant game ever made, because despite how note-perfect its moment-to-moment gameplay is, it's filled with missed opportunities and eyebrow-raising indulgences all at the same time.
Now, is it fair to blame Hideo Kojima for Konami forcing him to ship an unfinished game, with its much-discussed third chapter receiving the chop mid-production? No, but there is one massively embarrassing aspect of the game that Kojima certainly does have to answer for.
In the lead up to MGSV's release, discussions intensified surrounding the game's depiction of its heroine sidekick Quiet, who appeared to spend the entire game dressed in absurdly skimpy, totally impractical clothing.
Kojima addressed the criticism head-on before the game hit stores, claiming that "once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds."
Of course, as it turned out, the explanation for Quiet's lack of clothing was utterly laughable: she breathes and takes in nutrients through her skin, requiring her to bear as much skin as possible. Right.
It's painfully clear that Kojima just wanted to put a sexy fan service character in his game, complete with ridiculously suggestive poses and dance moves, and then made an hilariously half-assed attempt to justify it after-the-fact.
As mechanically amazing as MGSV may be, it's enough to make you question why you're giving Kojima so much rope, and how you'd explain Quiet to anyone - be it your mother, grandmother or girlfriend - who might walk in while you're playing.
Granted, the MGS series appears to be effectively dead with Kojima's departure, so you're basically hating a corpse at this point.
