The Call Of Duty franchise has been at the pinnacle of blockbuster titles for the best part of a decade now. And for that we can thank 2007's Modern Warfare for launching the series to these heights.

The first game in the franchise to bring the action to a modern-day setting, this title was a refreshing change of pace from what we were used to at the time. Part of the reason for this was its memorable campaign, which featured standout missions like Crew Expendable, Death From Above, and One Shot One Kill. However, one moment which everybody remembers is the finale to the aptly titled mission Shock And Awe.

Playing as US Marine Paul Jackson, this mission's objective is to capture antagonist Al-Assad. The mission plays out like any other. However, before reaching the objective news of a nuclear bomb means it's time to leave. But just when you manage to take-off after rescuing a crashed pilot, the bomb explodes.

Instead of a narrow escape, Jackson is caught in the explosion. And, in a harrowing sequence, stumbles through the devastation before his death.

Not only was this some powerful imagery, Jackson's unexpected death signalled that anything could happen from this point on.
