10. The Tutorial - Driver

If you were a little tyke when the legendary PS1 game Driver came out, there's a good chance you had to get your older brother/dad/cool uncle to help you make it through the damn tutorial, let alone the rest of the game.

One of the hardest "levels" the game has to offer, the tutorial requires the player to execute a number of flashy vehicular manoeuvers to prove their mettle.

However, the shopping list of tricks isn't at all explained - especially problematic if you're a kid with no idea of what "slalom" means - and the conditions to tick off a successful manoeuver are infuriatingly strict.

The actual game itself doesn't impose such restrictions on players, so making the tutorial a bland garage with minimal information and spandex-tight demands ensured many players - especially younger ones - ditched the game and never returned.

On the other hand, the tutorial was so flabbergastingly difficult it made most of the actual game seem relatively by comparison. That's assuming you hadn't binned it off after spending two hours stuck in that bloody garage, though.
