1. Battalion 1944

With so many people purring over EA Dice's decision to take their flagship FPS series back to historical settings with Battlefield 1, it's easy to imagine that this would be the only upcoming shooter of note. This would be a mistake, however, and there's a new WW2 shooter on the horizon that you should be getting just as excited about.

Battalion 1944 successfully reached its crowdfunding target goal of £100,000 within three days, and continued to receive backing for the entirety of its campaign. Early promotional footage shows this to be a solely multiplayer game set to work on dedicated servers. There will be no single player campaign mode in the game and you'll have to cut your teeth in the lion's den if you want to get better at it.

Unlockables and enhancements will also be highly skill-based, meaning that players won't be able to get unfair upper hands without working for them like in many other modern shooters. Battalion 1944 seems to be addressing many of the qualms and complaints that players have of 21st Century FPS games and, despite being very early in development, is completely worthy of your excitement as its 2017 release date slowly draws nearer.
