1. 3DO Interactive Multiplayer - $700
If you want to build a solid fan base to grow your home console business then don't even think about releasing your first attempt at a staggering $700. 3DO thought otherwise and released this monstrosity onto the scene in 1993 with the delusions of believing they had the console and the games to compete with the runaway duo of Sega and Nintendo. The 3DO was a capable machine that eventually released faithful ports of various PC titles, but by the time the reasonable titles showed up all interest in the console was lost. A price drop didn't happen until almost 3 years into the life to try and lure eyes away from the PlayStation but it all came too late and the 3DO was discontinued.
