5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Journeying As Link In 3D!
Watching Link take a gigantic step into the first 3D environment of the series was a groundbreaking moment for Zelda fans everywhere. Players were taken back by the impressive quality of the title, and numerous features of the game have become a seemingly inescapable comparison for current games of the same style. We're looking at you Darksiders! With the introduction of z-targeting, players were able to effectively maneuver within combat and attack with precision. It allowed for a unique combat experience that displayed how a lock-on system should be handled within the 3D game space. Players were able to journey along with Link as he gained new abilities and skills over the course of the game. As new melodies were learned the game encouraged you to backtrack in order to gain access to previously inaccessible areas, and it has proved to capture our imaginations ever since. Ocarina of Time is still widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made, and for good reason.
