4. Resident Evil - Creeper Zombie

Resident Evil is widely held as the spark that lit the fire of popularity for the survival-horror genre, and those that followed. Witnessing that first first zombie encounter in the tight hallways of the mansion has carved out a permanent spot in my brain. Limiting the players ability to defend themselves created a tense atmosphere that inspired a certain fear that many of the "survival horror" titles of this generation can't seem to capture. The fear of wasting ammunition circled around your head as you were never quite sure how many you would encounter behind the next door. The beginning of a franchise proved to be an impressive moment for horror fans in the gaming community, and it seems a shame that Resident Evil just isn't quite the same title it used to be.
