10 Failed PS2 Games That Became Cult Classics

1. Okami

Shadow of rome
Capcom

It was a genuine debate whether to put this or Beyond Good and Evil at the top, but Okami in the end feels like the bigger snub.

Okami is one of, if not the most visually breathtaking game ever released on the PS2. Considered to be Capcom's magnum opus for the 6th generation of consoles, Okami blends gorgeous visuals with a story rich with Japanese folklore and legend to create an unforgivable experience.

And, say it with me one more time, it sold like GARBAGE.

Again, a lot of this is the fault of the marketing, as when they advertised the remake, Okami HD, it actually sold pretty well. But the PS2 was characterized by a sinful glut of video games, from first to third-party, so being an artistic achievement simply wasn't enough to get attention. Marketing was half the battle, and Capcom, like so many on this list, simply refused to get with the program when it came to niche games like this.

And so, Okami bombed financially but became a cult classic for those in the know. And, more than any other entry on this list, you can absolutely see why.
