10 Failed PS2 Games That Became Cult Classics
2. Beyond Good & Evil
Still waiting on that sequel, Ubisoft.
Even though Ubisoft has been dragging its damn feet for coming on two decades when it comes to making a sequel, Beyond Good And Evil is exactly good enough to warrant that kind of a wait.
Mixing the style and gameplay of 5th-6th gen platformers with a sci-fi dystopian setting and a strong spiritualistic undercurrent, Beyond Good and Evil stood out from its contemporaries with strong visual direction, tight combat, and a deep and complex female lead. Beyond Good and Evil had everything needed to become a stone-cold classic in the hearts and memories of an entire generation.
Shame then, that it really struggled to sell.
A lot of this is on the head of Ubisoft, to be fair. They barely advertised the thing, and when they did, the ads kinda sucked. But those who bought it regardless made sure the whole internet knew what they missed, and are desperately waiting for Ubisoft to take a break from systemically abusing its staff to release the sequel promised over half a decade ago.
