10 Failed Video Games That Had So Much More Potential

3. Aliens: Colonial Marines

This one really stung, because Aliens: Colonial Marines also had a winning premise on its hands. A follow-up of sorts to the Aliens movie, it would see players take on the role of a hapless marine charged with trying to retrieve survivors from the movie’s stricken spacecraft, the Sulaco.

All Gearbox had to do was nail the blend of intense shooting action and tense horror gameplay (as Doom 3 did), and it could’ve been the game that finally did the franchise justice. Alas, it wasn’t to be.

Aliens: Colonial Marines suffered from awful enemy A.I. and was very samey and unoriginal, not to mention its technical problems. It was a fantastic license with the potential to become a killer title, but it didn’t live up to any of that. What a game this could’ve been!
