Of all the urban legends associated with the Grand Theft Auto series, Bigfoot is undoubtedly the most famous. Players would hunt down the mythical beast much like real-life believers in the creature do, with a number of falsified screenshots and hoax photos.

For a long time, it was almost considered fact that there was a Bigfoot hidden away somewhere in San Andreas, such was the extent of the rumours. It was thought that the creature could be found in the area around Mt. Chilliad at night, as part of an extremely rare spawn.

To quell the rumours, Bigfoot was confirmed to not exist in the game by Rockstar co-founder Terry Donovan. As a nod to the popular legend, Bigfoot was (sort of) added to the most recent entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V.
