10 Famous Gaming Secrets (That Never Really Existed)
6. Easier Pokémon Catching

Game: Pokémon Blue and Red
The Secret: Pressing a button combination makes it more likely that a Poké Ball will succeed!
Pokémon Blue and Red were incredibly popular games, that helped spawn a franchise that has since sunk its roots deep into popular culture. The blend of cutesy anime characters, solid gameplay and addictive collecting mechanics ensured the franchise would live on for decades to come.
The original Pokémon games were unusually large for Game Boy titles, meaning they were packed with secrets and things to do. One of the primary mechanics in the games was actually capturing the Pokémon themselves, by weakening them then throwing out a Poké Ball. Poké Balls wouldn't always succeed in the capture, and watching a ball wobble around as it struggled to capture the creature could be extremely tense.
Some hopeful (read: misguided) players believed a combination of tapping the 'B' button and a direction on the D-Pad would increase the chance of success. It didn't, but long-time fans will swear by the method even to this day.
