10 Famous Gaming Secrets (That Never Really Existed)

4. Luigi

Game: Super Mario 64

The Secret: You can unlock Luigi by collecting 2041 coins!

Super Mario 64 is one of Nintendo's most groundbreaking triumphs, and it managed to convince many players that 3D graphics were the future of gaming. A total joy to play, the game allowed players to run and jump across a series of large, open levels.

There was one thing that baffled long-time Mario fans though. Where was the other half of the plumbing partnership, Luigi? With the titular character as the main controllable hero, and even the lovable Yoshi making a cameo, surely Nintendo wouldn't forget to include Mario's brother?

In the courtyards of Peach's castle, there was a star statue with a plaque on it, that appears to read "L is real 2041." Many took this to mean "Luigi is real," and believed that he would become an unlockable character after 2041 coins were collected. Sadly, even after gathering every single coin in the game, Luigi was nowhere to be found.
