10 Fanatical Gamers Who Took Their Obsession Way Too Far

4. American Teen Goes On A Killing Spree - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The Grand Theft Auto series has courted controversy ever since its first iteration, the hugely enjoyable top down crime spree which kick-started the trend for violent yet subversive action. Since then, with each new release the predictable video games and violence debate has emerged in the media, with some reactionary groups laying the blame for all of society's ills at the door of developer Rockstar. While a link between the GTA games and violence has proven to be tenuous at best, there is one case in which the game can be said to have clearly influenced a young man and his rampage of violence. Teenager Devin Moore went on a cop-killing spree in Alabama in which he killed two policemen and a dispatcher after being booked for grand theft auto. Moore reportedly said before opening fire, "Life is a video game. You've got to die some time." After stealing a police car Moore was later apprehended and sentenced to death in 2005.
