10 Fanatical Gamers Who Took Their Obsession Way Too Far

5. Chinese Gamer Kills Rival For Selling Virtual Sword - Legend Of Mir 3

For some hardcore gamers addicted to online gaming, possessions acquired in the virtual world can be as precious as those in the real world. Given that often these are purchased with real world cash, it's perhaps unsurprising that some gamers treasure and cherish them so much and understandably people get annoyed when someone sells them on without their permission. This is what happened to Shanghai resident Qiu Chengwei when fellow online gamer Zhu Caoyuan sold his dragon sabre in Legend of Mir 3. His reaction was over the top to put it mildly - Chengwei confronted Caoyuan and stabbed him in the chest, killing him instantly. Chengwei had reportedly gone to the police before committing the murder, but they had dismissed the case saying the sword was not real property protected by law. Caoyuan had promised to pay back the cost but Chengwei lost his temper and delivered the fatal blow.
