10 Final Fantasy Characters Who Almost Ruined Their Own Games

3. Tidus (Final Fantasy X)

It's hard being stuck in your ways and then suddenly finding yourself completely out of your depth in a whole new world. Well, at least, that's what Tidus' story in Final Fantasy X tells us. The Star Player Of The Zanarkand Abes is transported to Spira when Sin destroys his home of Zanarkand and he finds himself lost in a world which is almost completely different. You really have to feel for the guy. ...Or not. Main characters have divided opinion in the Final Fantasy series before, but Tidus is easily the most conflict-causing protagonist of all. His naivety and ignorance means that he's a pretty good character to control as we, the player, learn about Spira ourselves, though this causes a lot of awkward situations that just make our hero look stupid. A key example is early in the game, when Wakka warns him against telling people he's from Zanarkand (in Spira, it's regarded as a holy place. Plus, it's been destroyed for a thousand years). Despite this, Tidus proceeds to tell everybody that'll listen that he's The Star Player Of The Zanarkand Abes, completely disregarding Wakka's wise warnings. While this never actually causes any conflict within the game (well, he does get branded a heathen by an old woman), it hardly paints Tidus as the sort of intelligent, heroic figure we want to be playing as. As a hero, Tidus develops late on in the game, especially due to his love story with Yuna becoming more central to the plot. Sadly, to get to that point, we have to endure his irritatingly cocky attitude, his inability to learn basic manners and a laugh scene in Luca which has lived in infamy for being one of the worst scenes in the entire series. Plus, he fits into the dumb blonde stereotype perfectly; time to buck up your ideas, Tidus.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
