10 Final Fantasy Characters Nobody EVER Used

9. Machina (Type-0)

Equalling Final Fantasy VI’s record for playable characters is the spinoff Type-0, which allowed any trio from a class of fourteen schoolmates to be utilised. Only a handful of these are beginner friendly, necessitating the commitment of considerable time and effort to learn the individual styles, advantages and disadvantages of each (a hard ask in a game that isn’t particularly good in the first place).

Thankfully, the fact that the AI controls two of the three party members on the field, where combat is fast paced and sometimes brutally unforgiving, means that difficult (but nevertheless useful) characters can still be utilised whilst controlling one of the more flexible characters, such as ranged specialists Ace, Trey, Cater and King.

The likes of Rem, Deuce and Queen can be effectively engaged in a supporting role, whilst Sice, Seven, Eight and Nine (they got less creative with the names after six…) all have their merits as damage-dealing melee fighters.

That leaves Jack, Cinque and Machina as contenders for the title of the game’s worst character. Jack is highly frustrating given that he cannot dodge with his weapon drawn, though said weapon can deal significant levels of damage when unsheathed. Cinque is too slow to be of any use in all but the rarest situations, though her unique stun abilities can upset the applecart.

That leaves Machina. Though ostensibly the game’s male lead plot-wise, his sluggishness and lack of useful combos easily secure him the dubious honour.
