10 Final Fantasy Characters Nobody EVER Used
7. Snow (XIII)
Final Fantasy XIII has the distinction of being one of the most poorly received entries in the franchise. It wasn’t helped by a battle system that was quite complex to manage in real-time, necessitating occasional usage of its very lazy Auto-Battle feature to have the AI decide the best courses of action to take against enemies.
The cast of six playable characters are again only set apart by their weapons, summonable eidolons and unique full ATB attack, which unlike a limit can be used repeatedly if the action is queued to charge.
Lightning, Snow and Sazh’s eidolons, Odin, Shiva and Brynhildr respectively, struggle to match up to Hecatoncheir, Bahamut and Alexander, who pledge their allegiance to Vanille, Fang and Hope. This disadvantage to Lightning and Sazh is offset massively by their unique abilities, both of which deal multiple hits and are hugely useful for staggering enemies.
Snow on the other hand is given a single hit area damage attack. Combined with the fact that he uses his fists to attack, he therefore has to constantly stay on the toes of enemies and take the full force of their assaults instead of utilising range.
Though useful for a period when each character excels at one of the six roles in the Paradigm system, Snow becomes more and more moot with time as others pick up the stats and abilities needed to fulfil the Sentinel role just as effectively.
