Strap in folks, because it's time to get real.

Sonic isn't a bad franchise. It never has been. What it has been, however, is very, very unlucky.

Because there have been enough poorly crafted games involving Sonic that many are understandably cautious to pick up the next instalment, lest they have paid big bucks for the next version of Sonic '06.

Which, to be fair, makes the change the franchise needs to make simple; make good games.

And it's worth saying that this isn't an easy task, because any game that has a main character that is fast as all hell is going to present certain challenges. While plenty of games have added in other characters, it's probably worth focusing on just Sonic, and just making his controls satisfying, and not like trying to hold a snake covered in butter.

The franchise will always hold a spot in people's heart, it's literally a matter of it giving the same levels of satisfying serotonin when you control it as you do in, say, Mario games.
