10 Forgotten WWE Match Types That Need To Return

5. Blindfold

This is wrestling as pantomime in its purest form, a match type that doesn’t just encourage audience participation but practically requires it in order to work. It explains itself - wrestlers are robbed of their sight, and must rely on their other senses in order to vanquish their similarly impeded foe.

The downsides first: by its nature the blindfold match is a slower affair than most, featuring a good deal of pacing, turning, and reaching in lieu of pacey and/or technical wrestling. The blindfolds are gimmicked, of course, meaning the performer has to convincingly feign blindness while ensuring there’s at least some flow to the bout. Lastly, it fundamentally doesn’t make sense that this would happen in a sporting company, but just go with it.

When it works - Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel, for example - it can be a hoot. An invested crowd will act as their chosen wrestler’s eyes, leading him around the ring. Roberts particularly played to the audience brilliantly, keeping them invested as he loped across the squared circle in a hilariously ungainly fashion.

It’s not the kind of match you’d want to see, say, Brock Lesnar in (though that would be a laugh), but a pair of comedically gifted wrestlers could make a good time out of the stipulation.
