10 Frustrating Mario Party Moments That Ruined Friendships
1. Chance Time
Any illusion that Mario Party was a game that you could win with any amount of strategy quickly slips away when we get to Chance Time, which taught every kid that life is unfair and terrible.
For Chance Time to occur, all a player has to do is randomly land on a Chance Time Space. Once they've landed on that, nothing good will emerge.
Chance Time varies in each game, but there's almost always three blocks which the player hits. The left and right one correspond with the players of the game, and the middle represents an action. The actions will typically either be one player giving another player their items, or the two players swapping items.
So let's imagine we're towards the end of the game, and you've worked your ass off to collect four stars. Your friend has sucked all game and has no stars. Another player gets to chance time and hits the three blocks.
The result? You trade stars with your slacker friend. Now he has four stars and you have zero. Within seconds, all your hard work has been wasted, and you're about to lose the game.
Like Monopoly taught kids about the evils of capitalism, Mario Party teaches us that the world is random, unfair and in the flash of a second you can lose everything.
Yet somehow, we kept coming back for more.
