10 Games Hidden Within Games
7. Pip-Boy Minigames (Fallout 4)
Fallout 4 is another of those games that's packed with distractions, from the joys of off-the-beaten-track wasteland wandering, to the simple thrills of the retro-themed minigames found on the Pip-Boy 3000 Mark IV.
Throughout the adventure, players stumble upon holo-tapes containing Bethesda's unique take on classic games from yesteryear, fully playable riffs on arcade greats like Donkey Kong, Missile Command, and Space Invaders.
Pipfall, for instance, is vintage platformer Pitfall with a Fallout twist. The sidescrolling gameplay is unchanged, but the protagonist makes way for Vault Boy and the visuals are Pip-Boy green. Red Menace saw Donkey Kong receive similar treatment, while Atomic Command was Missile Command gone nuclear.
As excuses for spurning the story missions go, there are few better than these nostalgic minigames. They add a little something to Fallout 4's world and lore, each coming with their own backstory and ficticious developer.
