8 Games That Burdened You With Awful Companions

3. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty - Emma Emmerich

KonamiKonamiAs if irritating players by making them play as Raiden instead of Solid Snake wasn't enough for Hideo Kojima, the producer also decided to add in an excruciatingly annoying escort mission just for good measure in MGS2. Being Hal "Otacon" Emmerich's stepsister, the player (as Raiden) is tasked with rescuing the girl from the clutches of the Sons of Liberty while on the Big Shell installation. However, once you find her, you'll wish you just left her there to rot, because her incompetence is just outright frustrating. Not only is the part of the facility you find her in partially flooded, but the girl also suffers from aqua-phobia, meaning you have to carry the runt through flooded corridors and hold her hand through submerged portions of the area. Just to make matters that little bit worse, once you finally reach the exterior of the Big Shell, you then have to watch over Emma while she makes her way across the narrow platforms that connect each combat area. Doesn't sound too hard right? Well it wouldn't be if the child wasn't constantly accosted by guards while attempting to make her way to safety. With just a sniper at hand to protect her, if you so much as make one mistake, it's game over and you have to start from the beginning. And when you find out what happens if you do manage to escort her to safety, you'll wonder why you even bothered in the first place.
