9. Krater (Fatshark)
A big trend at Rezzed in both the mainstream and indie gaming areas were games that mashed up established genres with left-field aesthetics or gameplay elements to create intriguing, if rather odd, hybrids. Krater is one such example, dressing a traditional top-down action RPG in visual elements drawn from futuristic/apocalyptic titles like Fallout and Borderlands, with characters sporting every permutation of gasmask imaginable. Chucking oldschool western conventions into the mix as well, I was quickly drawn into the simple but involving quest chains help the settlers, fight some radioactive beasties, etc etc and would have been happy to play for longer to have a proper go at developing my party's skillset at the Crafting Booths. Overall, a highly interesting concept that looked like it might just follow through. Krater is available now for
Windows only on Steam for £11.99.
