10 Games That You'll Be Playing Long After Rezzed

4. Tengami (Nyanyam)

Tengami Tucked away in a corner of the exhibition floor, Tengami was the convention's hidden gem and far and away the most beautiful and artistically unique game there. Designed in the style of traditional Japanese water-colour paintings and with the characters and environments constructed entirely from paper-craft cutouts, the touch-screen adventure game also uses aspects of pop-up books as a mechanic that allows you to interact with elements on the screen. For example, you can swipe across concertina-folded bridges to expand them across a river, thereby opening up access to the next area; or, drag across a series of windchimes to play a lullaby to send snarling wolves to sleep. The game has a slow, almost dreamlike pace and minimal gameplay, combining gorgeous visuals and elements of adventure and puzzle games with a storybook narrative. I only wish I had an iPad to play it on... Tengami will be released on the iPad soon, with further releases planned for the iPhone, Windows and Mac.
