From Chocobo Racing to Blitzball, there too many mini-games in Final Fantasy to count across the entire series. And while it largely comes down to preference, Triple Triad is easily the most addicting and one of the most fun to play.

Played on a 3x3 board, you place cards that have different ranks that correspond to each side of the card. The goal is to capture other player’s cards by placing one with a higher rank value next to the enemy’s. The winner is the person with the most cards captured. While the rules can have different variations and cards can have special powers, once you understand the basics, Triple Triad is pretty amazing.

Getting your head around the tactical side can take a while, but when you know what you’re doing, it can be rewarding and genuine fun, with enough merit to warrant its own standalone card game. And in a game as large as any Final Fantasy, a side-mission deep enough to engross you as much as Triple Triad will only added dozens of hours to your playtime.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
