10 Gaming DLCs That Surprised Everyone
7. Minerva’s Den - Bioshock 2
Despite a lukewarm reception on release, Bioshock 2 has found a new appreciation from fans in recent years, with its much-improved gunplay aging more gracefully than both its predecessor and Bioshock: Infinite. While its narrative took few risks in its thematic retread of the original’s story, its DLC Minerva’s Den is fondly remembered as some of the best storytelling in the entire series.
Kicking off with a quest to find Bioshock’s central computer, the stakes become increasingly gripping as you lead Big Daddy Subject Sigma through the ruins of Rapture. What starts as a fairly simple expedition ends up becoming one of the series’ most heartfelt and personal story vignettes.
Minerva’s den does feature a few new additions to Bioshock 2’s best-in-series combat - like the Ion gun - but the real draw here is the excellent writing and moving storytelling. Bioshock is best when it’s about people, rather than ideas. Here, Minerva’s Den truly delivers.
