10 Gaming DLCs That Surprised Everyone
5. The Taken King - Destiny
To call Destiny’s launch rocky would be like calling Activision Blizzard a friendly independent publisher. Years of hype and promises were eventually revealed to be little more than hot air, and Destiny saw one of the most legendarily disappointing launches in memory, until the (now excellent) No Man’s Sky would claim that crown a few years later.
For many players, The Taken King turned Destiny into the game it was always supposed to be. Altogether, the DLC added new narrative, PvP, and PvE content, as well as the bounty system. Alongside this came numerous tweaks and changes to how Destiny felt to play. They also got rid of Peter Dinklage’s much-memed performance as the player’s Ghost, replacing him with the ubiquitous Nolan North. You can’t really blame Dinklage, though, given what the Game of Thrones actor had to work with.
These were all great additions, but The Taken King's biggest achievement was helping Bungie regain the trust of players, which helped grow Destiny into what it is today.
