10 Gaming DLCs That Surprised Everyone

4. Undead Nightmare - Red Dead Redemption 2

The ‘zombies make everything better’ philosophy of the early 2000s didn’t take long to overstay its welcome, but these shambling pop-culture staples certainly made for some truly excellent DLC to Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. While the original game wasn’t afraid to have some fun, it was still somewhat constrained to its own Western homage. No such problems with the DLC, which throws reality out of the window to turn its open-world into a zombie-killing sandbox.

Borrowing gang territory mechanics from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Undead Nightmare sees John Marston liberating map locations from the zombie threat. Alongside this, there’s plenty of story missions, side missions, and minigames.

If GTA5 and RDR2 are any indication, it seems like Rockstar have left the days of story DLC behind in favour of content for their ridiculously profitable online modes. It’s a shame, because Undead Nightmare is still fondly remembered by many.
