10 Gaming Franchises That Desperately Need A Reboot
4. Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy
It's boggling how this game never got a sequel. Despite getting positive reviews and a cult fan response, the game never reached full momentum on its popularity, and it was eventually forgotten.
Psi-Ops' gameplay brilliant incorporated shooting combat mechanics with the excitement of wielding several powerful psychic abilities. You could lift enemies in the air with telekinesis, take over enemies with mind control or simply burn them to a crisp with pyrokinesis. With all this creativity bursting from the controller, why wasn't there ever a sequel?
Well, a lot of people speculate it was the timing of its release. In 2004, the PS2 and Xbox generation was coming to an end to make way for better technology, like Xbox 360 and PS3. With the release coming so close to this rift, it was less likely for a one hit wonder to garner a sequel, no matter how good the reviews were.
Also, at the time of release, it was up against GTA: San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Halo 2.
Despite Midway Games sadly becoming defunct in 2009, companies like People Can Fly, Insomniac or Ubisoft can probably do something interesting with this idea. Make it happen.
