5. Rushing Games To Launch

So, funny story about Sonic 2006. If it seemed unfinished when it came out, that's because it was. In fact, the dev team wasn't even halfway done with it. Oh sure, you COULD play it from start to finish, but as anyone who has ever played the game before will tell you, the difference between could (hypothetical) and CAN (realistic) is a harsher line than you might think.

The reason it was released this way? Well, 06 was the 15th anniversary of the Hedgehog, so Sega wanted it out in 06 or bust. the dev team working on it pleaded with their bosses for more time, but by now, Sega's self-destructive stubbornness is legendary.

This is but one - albeit very famous - example of publishers thinking they know better than the devs working under them, and rushing out a game to launch before it's anywhere close to ready.

See also, Knights Of The Old Republic 2, which was missing several parts of the game that you now need various mods to unlock.

And how could we forget our favorite punching bag, Fallout 76, which Bethesda admitted point blank that they deliberately and knowingly released in a drastically unfinished state, coining the term "Break-It Early Test Application" for their beta only a week ahead of release.
