10 Gaming Industry Issues That Must Die With This Generation
4. Microtransactions
It's only natural that one of gaming's biggest boogieman today would be on this list, and indeed it definitely deserves its spot. Microtransactions, when they first started back in the early 2010's with games like Star Wars: The Old Republic's Cartel Market and Overwatch, were deemed as kinda annoying, but overall harmless.
But then this story moved on to the same chapter as anything else the gaming industry sees as the next big thing: Then The Idiots Got Their Hands On It.
Microtransactions are now EVERYWHERE. If it's even slightly online, guaranteed it has microtransactions in there somewhere. And even if a game doesn't have microtransactions at first, like with the re-release of Crash Team Racing, companies will put them in once they think they can get away with it.
Microtransactions are, by their very nature, predatory. Very few games have ever implemented them in a way that got around the inherently greedy nature of the system, and frankly, we're better off without them.
