10 Gaming Plot Twists That Blew Our Minds

1. Things Are Not What They Seem - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul8j9I90ueM As if shocking us once with the Raiden reveal wasn't bad enough, the final hour or two of Metal Gear Solid 2 felt content to blow our minds again, as the game earns its reputation as one of the very first "postmodern" video games. As various dialogues about simulation and VR begin to creep into the conversation, and the Colonel begins to glitch out, it's clear that something is not right. It turns out that the Colonel Campbell we've been talking to for the entire game is, in fact, a computer AI, and the Big Shell's events appear to have been little more than a controlled experiment. Thus, many players left the game wondering if any of the events had actually transpired at all, and whether Raiden was even real. Of course, we find out from subsequent games that he was, but then there's another ridiculous twist to come, as it's revealed that all 12 men of the Wisemen's Committee - otherwise known as the Patriots - have been dead for over 100 years, an absolute WTF moment that makes us wonder where the series was going to go from here. Thankfully, subsequent games did clarify and clear these events up, but Kojima leaving us in the lurch for so long was infuriating, and definitely mind-blowing.
