10 Gaming Predictions For The Rest Of 2016

7. PlayStation VR Has A Middling Launch

The Prediction: PSVR finally launches on 13 October, and though Sony have a ton banked on it, don't be surprised if it's a launch of dubious success. Expect software glitches, hardware faults, a lackluster launch lineup, and endless comparisons to superior PC-based VR tech.

Why It Will Happen: Even more traditional and simple game console launches are almost always plagued with problems, and given how much more complex VR is, these issues could easily be multiplied many times over.

Plus, there's still a big problem with audience awareness: the fact that demo units have largely only been rolled out in the U.S. and Canada means that large portions of the potential player-base can't even try the units out for themselves before throwing their money down. This could tie into any bad press around launch to make PSVR's first few months incredibly underwhelming.

Why It Might Not: Then again, perhaps Sony have their head screwed on for this launch and appreciate how badly it would affect the public perception if their product doesn't have a smooth release. Hopefully it gets play-tested to hell and there are actually some launch titles of substance.
