10 Gaming Villains We Were Emotionally-Invested In Defeating
6. Vladimir Makarov (Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare)
People don't really like to admit it but Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare storyline is really well developed with memorable characters and great scenes. Some of it is simply there to cause outrage, naturally (the No Russian mission will forever remain in infamy as a result), but the central conflict between Captain Price and Makarov is engaging and interesting throughout. By the end of Modern Warfare 3, it seems that Price is willing to sacrifice everything to eliminate Makarov from the world finally; an obsession which allows us as the player to grow attached to this relationship. The final game also incriminates Makarov further, tying him to the nuke explosion from Call of Duty 4 which wipes out 30,000 marines and triggers the entire storyline. The game does a great job at making us hate Makarov, making his final demise all the sweeter. The final brutal and grisly scene of his body hanging above a cigarette-smoking Price is almost breath-taking as a result the image itself already shocking but it serves as a memorable final scene for a series that often doesn't get the credit it deserves. Makarov proves that Call of Duty can create deep and interesting characters which we genuinely grow to despise; developing and creating more stories based around these types of villains will see the series improve leaps and bounds.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
