10 Gaming Villains We Secretly Wanted To Beat Us

1. The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)

Only those dedicated Metal Gear-gamers on their second playthrough will appreciate why it would be best if The Boss won her climatic showdown with former student Solid Snake. The developers of the Metal Gear series have always been big on twists €“ indeed Snake has been double and triple-crossed more times than many of us have had hot dinners €“ but very few had anticipated the nasty little curveball they had in store for us at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3. Snake had been informed that his mentor, The Boss, had defected to those conniving Soviets, providing them with invaluable intel to undermine the West. The Boss of course had not defected €“ she had in fact staged the betrayal in order to infiltrate Volgin€™s ranks (exactly the same move employed by Snape to get in the fold with Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise). Though of course we all love Solid Snake, The Boss€™s resolute commitment to her faction even though it would eventually lead to her death means that €“ on a second playthrough €“ it is hard not to want The Boss to come out on top. Indeed Snake, who is devastated when he learns that he has to kill a loyal ally, would more-than-likely be rooting for her as well. Which antagonists were you routing for more than who you were supposed to be? Let us know in the comments!
