10 Garbage Games Everybody Bought Anyway
7. Resident Evil 6
Although Resident Evil has had its ups and downs, all of the mainstream entries have been a critical success. With the exception of RE6.
Even though the survival horror was toned down in the last two games, Resident Evil 6 eroded those elements completely. Worse still, it double-downed on the franchise's recurring flaws, including one-dimensional characters and cheesy dialogue.
Also, there's such a glut of tasteless action, bombastic chases, and needlessly elaborate battles, it has little resemblance to its predecessors. This decision could've been somewhat forgiven if the action was innovative. However, many of these sequences involve uncreative button-mashing and Quick-Time Events, which quickly becomes repetitive and tedious.
Resident Evil 6 was expected to move seven million copies, but couldn't break five million by the end of its fiscal year, branding this undead dud as a flop.
At least, at the time. However, the sales kept coming in at steady pace, allowing this trash to climb to eight million copies within a year. Thanks to re-releases over the last decade, RE6 has now sold nine million units, making it more successful than both versions of RE4, which is considered the crown-jewel of Capcom's zombie saga.
It may be the bottom of the flesh-eating barrel, but that didn't stop Resident Evil 6 from raking it in.
