10 GENIUS Time Travel Levels In Video Games

9. Chapter 5 - Shadow Of Memories

Titanfall 2 Effect And Cause
Konami

Shadow of Memories is a bizarre 2001 mystery game in which you play as a German man named Eike Kusch, traveling through time in order to prevent his own murder.

The premise itself is already intriguing, but it's the way in which the game's mechanics play with it that makes Shadow of Memories worth playing.

You see, when you travel through time, the time in the present doesn't stop but rather runs parallel to the time in whatever period you're in. This means that you need to change your fate within a time limit, which is easier said than done, as the more you mess with the timeline, the more consequences it has for the present, and you might have to travel even further back in order to fix it.

The perfect example of how chaotic this mechanic is is the fifth chapter of the game.

By that point, Eike has changed things so much that he needs to travel between three different time periods, going as far back as the 1580s, while keeping track of three separate clocks and time limits.

It's extremely stressful, chaotic, and unlike any other thing you'll ever experience in gaming. In other words, definitely worth checking out!
