10 Genius Video Game Easter Eggs You Need To See For Yourself
1. Game Deleted, Prepare For The Sequel - Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
If Resident Evil was mixed together with psychological horror themes with the voice cast of Metal Gear Solid, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem would be the result of this concoction.
The terrifying mansion of Rhode Island is full of evil creatures and nasty spirits from aeons ago. Various protagonists from different time zones must fight their fears and uncover the history of this twisted place.
Strange things would happen if the game’s sanity meter is empty. These effects certainly add an intriguing spin to it all.
They include: Eerie sounds and bleeding walls, accidentally committing suicide after reloading - even decapitating the player, forcing them to pick up their head and listen to an eerie rendition of the famous scene from Hamlet: "To be, or not to be..."
Some of these effects break the fourth wall to devastating effect. There’s a rare chance that when you try and save your game, it’ll instead delete it “accidentally”. While you scream in fear at the loss of your progress, the screen will flash, and reveal it was a hallucination.
Another one will end the game on the spot when you beat a chapter. Game over. You won. To be continued in Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Redemption. The sequel doesn’t exist, unfortunately. Still, it’s a delicious piece of false-hope.
