4. Bioshock Infinity’s Sky-Hook

Bioshock Infinite Skyhook

In our cluttered and hurried world, multi-tasking and multi-purposing become ever more crucial to functioning as people. The same is true of our killing implements, real or virtual, with the Skyhook from Bioshock Infinity being a handsome example.

This finely crafted art deco device is used to hang from the rails strung between the skybound chunks of the city of Columbia, a key mechanic for the game which adds a soaringly vertical element to the FPS mix.

Already the Skyhook would be a beloved piece of gaming kit. But then you realise something the rest of the game’s inhabitants seem to have overlooked - that the Skyhook’s whirling triple blades are also perfect for splaying open the ribcages of anyone who stumbles into the killing zone that surrounds you. And so the Skyhook ascends to the status of a multi-purpose death machine, both practical and horrendous.

It slices, it dices, it rules.
