10 Great Songs You Associate With Great Games

6. "La Mer" By Django Reinhardt / "Beyond The Sea" By Bobby Darrin

The original BioShock game was a huge hit, getting perfect scores from a number of outlets. Set in 1960, you play as Jack, the survivor of a plane crash, who finds himself in the under sea city of Rapture. It was conceived as a utopia in the 1950's by an ultra wealthy business man but became a dystopia after it all fell apart.

As Jack takes the bathysphere down to Rapture, "La Mer" by Django Reinhardt plays. This frames the 50's vibe that permeates the game perfectly, setting you up for what comes next. The Bobby Darin version of the song, "Beyond the Sea," plays on jukeboxes in the game as well as being used in one of the trailers.

While the song is beautiful, the remixed distorted version of the Darrin track in the trailer lets you know that you're in for a rough ride when you get to rapture.
