10 Great Video Game Reboots (That Failed Anyway)
8. Bionic Commando (2009)
Bionic Commando has reached the point now where it is an ancient joke among video game fans. The step from 2D to 3D sometimes does a game well, look at Super Mario 64 for example, but for others it became the video game equivalent of the death penalty.
Bionic Commando debuted on the Xbox 360 to scathing reviews and little player fanfare. It was also another of the countless casualties of the mid 2000's obsession to make sure everything was as serious and edgy as possible. Nathan "Rad" Spencer was therefore changed from fun-loving ginger action hero to dreads-wearing military anti-hero just like that - because apparently that's what kids liked in those days.
However the game did have some promise. The action was good and while the swinging mechanics didn't exactly rival Spider-Man, they were still fun and fluid to use.
Nowadays all people remember from Bionic Commando is the rather laughable plot, and a twist that would make M. Night Shyamalan in his off years cringe.
Let's pretend that the bionic arm is just that, a bionic arm - nope, no dead wife here.
