10 Great Video Games That Almost Never Happened At All

8. Fallout 3

Due to the financial issues of Interplay studio and the closing of Black Isle Studios, the uncompleted Fallout 3's future fell into uncertainty. With a massive portion of the game completed, the developers must have been over the moon to discover Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda Softworks had purchased the game, at the hefty price of $1,175,000. That's a significant cost, but it made sense when you consider that the first two games were moderate successes, they had a glowing reputation among PC aficionados and the game was well into development. At least, it was until Bethesda Softworks decided to scrap all the work that had gone into it so far and start from scratch. We can't be sure of the reasons behind this: Black Isle Studios had done a sterling job on the previous two entries and there was no suggestion their work was not up to standard, but then hat kind of perfectionism is to be expected when you're dealing with the studio that created Skyrim. The gamble paid off: Fallout 3 was released in 2008, receiving high praise and shifting several million copies. It's sequel New Vegas did almost as well, so whatever the problem they identified was, they certainly fixed it.

I've been writing since I was fourteen and thought it might get girls to like me. It didn't. I should have learned guitar instead.
