If I were to recommended a game to you that becomes really, really brilliant "after about 20 hours of naff stuff", I honestly wouldn't blame you if you screamed in my face as loud as you possibly could, until I simply walked away.

However, I still must tell you that Final Fantasy XIII is a game worth playing, despite the fact that you could beat any number of other titles in the time it takes to get good. This Final Fantasy tried to change the franchise formula in some major ways and, in the process, decided to introduce most of these changes through a painfully long introduction period that guides the player along an incredibly linear path. Considering that's one word you should never use to describe a Final Fantasy game, it's a major problem.

In many ways, this is an all-time great Final Fantasy game. Realistically, though, many gamers will never reach that halfway point and discover why that is.
