10 Great Video Games Whose Later Levels Are Absolute Torture

6. Bioshock Infinite

The world of Bioshock Infinite is beautiful. Your first steps into Columbia are like walking into a delicate, pastoral piece of art; it's a real achievement. Even the small touches like the barbershop quartet singing the Beach Boys' classic 'God Only Knows' helps to draw you into the world beautifully.

Your stay in Columbia isn't all rainbows and sunshine though; this is a world with a racist, hideous undercoating, making that initial introduction all the more sinister. The game teases you through wide open spaces and glimpses of exploration, but your path is mostly linear with little else to see or do. Combined with the subpar gameplay certain sections of Infinite can be utterly bogged down in tedium.

None more so than the Lady Comstock section which takes place in Emporia, home to Columbia's wealthiest. She is a boss that you will fight three times and each one is a war of attrition, especially on 1999 Mode. Resources are scarce and the First Lady of Columbia doesn't go down easily; she also has the ability to revive soldiers to fight by her side.

It leads to a highly frustrating section but finally laying her to rest is a huge relief. You'll be glad you persevered too €“ the game's finale is truly breathtaking.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
